Overview

StockApp's built-in messaging system lets you communicate with buyers, vendors, and teammates directly within the platform. Messages support @mentions to reference products, people, and companies, and automatic translation for multilingual communication.

What happens in the system

  • Messages are delivered in real-time - Recipients see messages immediately if they're online

  • @Mentions create clickable links - Mentioned products link directly to that product's details

  • Mentioned people receive notifications - If they have notifications enabled for messages

  • Messages are automatically translated - Each user sees messages in their preferred language

  • Original text is preserved - Recipients can view the original untranslated message

What does NOT happen

  • No read receipts - You cannot see if someone has read your message.

  • No message editing - Once sent, messages cannot be edited (but can be deleted).

  • No external notifications by default - Recipients must have notifications enabled to receive email/SMS alerts.

  • No translation of @mentioned product names - Product names appear as-is in all languages.

You can access messages from any page in StockApp:

  1. Click the Messages button in the bottom-right corner of the screen

The number badge on the Messages button shows your unread message count.

Using @Mentions

You can @mention products, teammates, buyers, and vendors directly in your messages.

Automatic Message Translation

StockApp automatically translates messages based on each user's language preference.

How It Works

  1. You write a message in your preferred language

  2. The recipient sees the message translated into their language

  3. They can click to see the original text if needed

Setting Your Language Preference

  1. Go to Settings (gear icon in the left sidebar)

  2. Click Preferences under Account

  3. Select your preferred Language from the dropdown (English, Spanish, German)

  4. Messages you receive will be automatically translated to this language

Viewing Original Text

When a message has been translated:

  1. Look for the globe icon next to the message

  2. Click to expand and see the original untranslated text

  3. Click again to collapse

Message Notifications

Messages appear in real-time. You can be notified through:

  • In-app notifications (bell icon)

  • Email (if enabled in notification settings)

  • The unread count badge on the Messages button

Common Issues

Issue: Not receiving message notifications

Symptom: You have the messaging panel closed and don't know when new messages arrive.

Solution: Enable message notifications in Settings > Notifications. See Setting Up Notifications.

Issue: @Mention dropdown not appearing

Symptom: You type @ but no dropdown appears.

Solution: Ensure you're typing the @ symbol without a space before it. The dropdown needs a moment to load results.
