Setting Up Notifications

What this does: Configure how and when you receive notifications through email, desktop, Slack, or WhatsApp.

Overview

StockApp notifies you about important events - new orders, messages, price changes, and more. You can customize which channels receive notifications (Email, Desktop, Slack, WhatsApp) and how frequently you're notified for different types of updates.

What happens in the system

  • Changes apply to future events only - Notifications you configure will affect events that happen after you save

  • Each channel works independently - You can have Email on Immediately and Desktop on Daily digest for the same event type

  • Daily digest sends once per day - All events from the past 24 hours are combined into a single summary

  • Test notifications verify your setup - They confirm the channel is working correctly

What does NOT happen

  • No retroactive notifications - Changing settings only affects future events, not past ones.

  • No automatic opt-in - New notification types are off by default; you must enable them.

  • No notification for your own actions - You won't be notified about things you did yourself.

  • No cross-account sync - Notification settings are per-account; each StockApp has its own settings.

Prerequisites

  • An active StockApp account

  • For Slack notifications: A connected Slack workspace (Settings > Connected accounts)

  • For WhatsApp notifications: A verified phone number (Settings > Connected accounts)

Accessing Notification Settings

  1. Click the Settings icon (gear) in the left sidebar

  2. Under Account, click Notifications

Notification Channels

StockApp supports four notification channels:

Channel

Browser push notifications (requires browser permission)

Email

Notifications sent to your registered email address

Slack

Direct messages in your connected Slack workspace

WhatsApp

Messages to your verified WhatsApp number

Enabling a Channel

  1. Find the channel you want to enable

  2. Toggle the switch to the on position (green shows "Enabled")

  3. Click the row to configure detailed settings for that channel

Setting Up Desktop Notifications

  1. Toggle Desktop notifications on

  2. Your browser will ask for permission to show notifications

  3. Click Allow in the browser prompt

  4. Test with the "Send test notification" button

If you accidentally blocked notifications, you'll need to change this in your browser settings.

Setting Up Email Notifications

  1. Click on the Email row to open detailed settings

  2. Toggle "Enable email notifications" to on

  3. Click "Send test notification" to verify emails are working

Setting Up Slack Notifications

  1. First, connect your Slack workspace in Settings > Connected accounts

  2. Return to Notifications and toggle Slack on

  3. Configure which notifications go to Slack

Setting Up WhatsApp Notifications

  1. First, verify your phone number in Settings > Connected accounts

  2. Return to Notifications and toggle WhatsApp on

  3. Select which notifications you want via WhatsApp

Notification Categories

Within each channel, you can configure notifications for different categories of events.

Available Categories

Invitations received, invites accepted, sharing permissions

New purchase orders, order status changes, fulfillment updates

Return requests, return status changes

Offers

New offers received, offer responses

Inventory

Stock level alerts, inventory changes

Financial

Payment notifications, earnings updates

Referrals

Referral program updates

Security

Login alerts, security-related notifications

Expanding a Category

Click on any category row to see the specific notification types within it. For example, Comments and replies includes:

  • New comments on shared pricelists or shared items

  • New comments internal to a StockApp

  • @mentions in comments

  • Replies to your comments

  • Seller comments on your orders

  • Buyer comments on orders they placed with you

Setting Notification Frequency

For each notification type, choose how often you want to be notified:

Changing Frequency

  1. Click the dropdown next to any notification type

  2. Select your preferred frequency

  3. Changes are saved automatically

Testing Notifications

After configuring a channel:

  1. Click into the channel's detailed settings

  2. Click Send test notification

  3. Verify you receive the test notification on that channel

If you don't receive the test notification, check:

  • Email: Check your spam folder

  • Desktop: Ensure browser notifications are allowed

  • Slack: Verify the workspace connection is active

  • WhatsApp: Confirm your phone number is verified

Common Issues

Issue: Not receiving email notifications

Symptom: You have email enabled but aren't getting notifications.

Solution:

  1. Check your spam/junk folder

  2. Add [email protected] to your contacts

  3. Send a test notification to verify

Issue: Desktop notifications blocked

Symptom: Desktop toggle is on but you don't see notifications.

Solution:

  1. Check your browser's notification settings

  2. Look for the lock icon in your browser's address bar

  3. Click it and allow notifications for StockApp

Issue: Too many notifications

Symptom: Your inbox is flooded with StockApp emails.

Solution:

  1. Switch high-volume categories to "Daily digest"

  2. Disable notifications for categories you don't need
